Bearcats take first conference match of the season with win over George Fox
NEWBERG, Ore. — Willamette University defeated George Fox University in four sets, 25-18, 25-17, 12-25, 25-18, on Friday at Wheeler Sports Center/Miller Gym. The Bearcats' aggressive play was highlighted by a strong serving game, recording seven aces despite 13 service errors. The Bruins countered with 11 aces of their own. A key moment in the match came when Willamette regrouped after dropping the third set, dominating the fourth to secure the victory.
Katey Cramer led the offensive charge, recording 17 kills on 45 attempts and contributing 18.5 total points. Leina Chu facilitated the attack with 35 assists while also adding 10 digs defensively. Dream Takemoto anchored the back row, finishing with 15 digs to support the defensive effort. Chelsea Velez added versatility with 12 kills and two service aces, contributing 14.5 points overall.
The Bearcats hold a 3-5 overall record and lead the Northwest Conference with a 1-0 conference record. The Bruins stand at 3-4 overall and start their conference play with a 0-1 record in the Northwest Conference.
Looking ahead, the Bearcats will travel to Walla Walla, WA, on Friday, Sept. 19, to face Whitman College. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
