Men's Golf Finishes 5th at Highly Competitive Space City Classic
Houston, Texas - Willamette Men's Golf shot a 294 in the final round of the Space Classic to finish in fifth place in an event that had four nationally ranked teams participating. The Bearcats ended with a three-round total of 882 (290-298-294) to finish at +30 for the event, one stroke behind the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Alexander Papajohn took fourth place overall as an individual with a combined score of 214 (67-74-73), finishing at 1-over par for the event.
The Bearcats entered the final day in fourth place and were looking to move up in the standings, but a strong showing by UMHB propelled them past Willamette into the fourth spot. Papajohn, who led the Bearcats in round one with his 4-under par 67, again posted the low score for Willamette with a 2-over par 73. He was joined at 73 by Oliver Smith, who posted his low score of the event in the final round. Brock Olson and Kyler Phillips both carded rounds of 74, which was also the low round of the event for Phillips. Olson shot a consistent 72-70-74 to finish with a total of 216 (+3) that would be good for 6th place overall.
Men's Golf returns to action on March 8th and 9th when they participate in the Boxer Invitational hosted by Pacific University. The event will take place at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon.
