SALEM, Ore. — Willamette University defeated George Fox University in a five-set thriller, 13-25, 15-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-10, on Tuesday at Cone Field House. The Bearcats' victory was bolstered by eight service aces and a strong defensive effort, recording 79 digs. Despite dropping the first two sets, the Bearcats rallied to take the final three, completing the comeback in a tense fifth set. George Fox managed 11 service aces but could not hold off the home team's surge.
Lexie Scott led the team with 24 kills, posting a .309 hitting percentage over five games. Leina Chu facilitated the offense with 47 assists and contributed defensively with 16 digs. Dream Takemoto anchored the back row, collecting 23 digs throughout the matches. Chelsea Velez made an impact with eight kills on a .381 hitting percentage and added 13 digs.
The Bearcats hold a 7-9 overall record and are 5-4 in Northwest Conference play. George Fox has a 5-10 overall record and stands at 2-7 in the Northwest Conference.
