Willamette Women's Tennis Team to Host Four-Way Tournament
SALEM, ORE. -- The Bearcats will host the Willamette Four-Way Invitational in women's tennis this weekend, with action at the Willamette University Tennis Courts and the Salem Tennis and Swim Club on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 21.

Competing in the tournament will be Willamette, George Fox University, Linfield College and Pacific University. There will be eight singles flights and four doubles flights, with each flight including four athletes playing a round robin schedule. Matches will start at 9 a.m. each day. Individual results will be recorded, but there will not be team standings.
The top flight of singles includes Denise Poltavski (Sr., Woodland Hills, CA/El Camino Real HS) from Willamette, Ella Riddle from Linfield, Chantelle Hadeed from George Fox and Kaitlyn Lomartire of Pacific. In the opening round on Saturday, Poltavski will play Riddle and Hadeed will take on Lomartire.
Others competing in singles for Willamette include Mikaila Smith (Fr., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS) at #2, Alicia Sohn (So., Tustin, CA/Arnold O. Beckman HS) at #3, Katie Adams (Fr., McLean, VA/American International School) at #4, and Ellen Rumley (Fr., Anchorage, AK/East Anchorage HS) at #5.
Also participating in singles for WU will be Ashley Evans (Fr., Canby, OR/Canby Union HS) at #6, Emily Guimont (Jr., El Dorado Hills, CA/Folsom HS) at #7, and Izzy Pena-Venegas (Fr., Salem, OR/West Salem HS) at #8.
In doubles, Poltavski and Smith will represent the Bearcats in the #1 flight. Guimont and Sohn will play at #2 doubles, while Adams and Evans will compete at #3 doubles, and Kricia Ruano (Fr., Beaverton, OR/Aloha HS) and Erin Tokutomi (Fr., Cupertino, CA/Homestead HS) at #4 doubles.
Poltavski and Smith will be joined in the #1 doubles bracket by Riddle and Mackenzie Fraser of Linfield, Andrea Motley and Catrina Kwong from George Fox, and Lomartire and Jelena Vidovic of Pacific. Poltavski and Smith will take on Riddle and Fraser in the first round, while Motley and Kwong will match up with Lomartire and Vidovic.
The first two rounds of singles and the first round of doubles will be played on Saturday. Action will conclude with the final round of singles and the last two rounds of doubles on Sunday.
On both days, the #1 through #4 singles flights will compete at the WU Tennis Courts, with #5 through #8 singles at the Salem Tennis & Swim Club. All of the doubles matches each day will be played at the WU Tennis Courts.
Denise Poltavksi achieved a 12-3 record in singles this past spring. She was named First Team All-NWC for the second consecutive year.
