Gutierrez Falls to #1 Seed in Round of 16 at Ojai Tournament
OJAI, CALIF. -- Willamette University women's tennis player Sabrina Gutierrez (Sr., Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park HS) lost in the Round of 16 in singles to the #1 seed, Lauren Stratman from Westmont College (Calif.), 6-0, 6-1, at the 114th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament on Friday, April 25. Gutierrez competed in the Women's Independent Colleges bracket.
Finishes Season with a 10-6 Record in Singles
OJAI, CALIF. -- Willamette University women's tennis player Sabrina Gutierrez (Sr., Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park HS) lost in the Round of 16 in singles to the #1 seed, Lauren Stratman from Westmont College (Calif.), 6-0, 6-1, at the 114th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament on Friday, April 25. Gutierrez competed in the Women's Independent Colleges bracket.
Stratman advanced into the quarterfinals, where she defeated Samantha Chao from Pomona-Pitzer, 6-2, 6-0. Stratman will participate in the semifinals on Saturday, April 26 against Caroline Ward from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.). The finals will be held on Sunday, April 27.
Despite the loss to Stratman, Gutierrez finished an outstanding season with a 10-6 record in singles. She also achieved a 13-2 record in doubles with teammate Denise Poltavski (Jr., Woodland Hills, CA/El Camino Real HS).
Willamette concluded the dual match season with a 5-9 overall record and a 3-9 record in the Northwest Conference. Gutierrez and Poltavski were 11-1 in the NWC in doubles, while Gutierrez went 7-5 and Poltavski was 10-2 in the NWC in singles.BRACKETS AND RESULTS
