SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University women's tennis standout Shannon Palmer (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2008-09 season. Palmer was one of eight NWC athletes chosen for the First Team. An additional six athletes were named to the Second Team.

YAKIMA, WASH. -- Lewis & Clark College earned a 2-1 lead in doubles, including a tie-breaker win at #1 doubles, as the Pioneers gained an early edge on their way to a 7-2 victory over Willamette University in the fifth place match of the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, Saturday, April 18 at the Yakima Tennis Center. L&C improved to 14-9. Willamette ended the season at 8-13 overall.

YAKIMA, WASH. -- Whitman College defeated Willamette University, 8-1, in a first round match at the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday, April 17 at the Yakima Tennis Center. Whitman upped its record to 14-8, while Willamette fell to 8-12.

TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University women's tennis team closed out the regular season by rolling past the University of Puget Sound, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday, April 11. Willamette heads into the NWC Tournament with an overall record of 8-11, including 7-9 in the NWC. The Bearcats tied for fifth place in the NWC standings and will be the #6 seed in the tournament. Puget Sound finished its season at 1-15 overall, 1-15 in the conference.

SALEM, ORE. -- Shannon Palmer (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) of Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 5. Palmer helped Willamette go 2-0, as the Bearcats registered an 8-1 win over Pacific Lutheran University and a 9-0 victory over George Fox University.

McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield College improved to 16-4 on the season by defeating the visiting Willamette University Bearcats, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Tuesday, April 7. Although WU lost the overall match, the Bearcats received a win from Shannon Palmer (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) at #1 singles. She defeated Sallie Katter of Linfield, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 10-7 in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set.

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University and Linfield College have agreed to move their women's tennis match to Tuesday, April 7 in McMinnville, Ore., at 3:30 p.m. (PDT). The teams were originally scheduled to play at Linfield on Friday, April 10, but decided to meet earlier in the week to avoid the potential for inclement weather.

SALEM, ORE. -- Lewis & Clark College won a close match at #3 doubles and claimed victories in three sets at #4 and #5 singles, as the Pioneers gained an edge to defeat Willamette University, 6-3, on Sunday, March 29 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. L&C upped its record to 11-8 overall, 8-6 in the NWC, while the Bearcats fell to 5-10 overall, 4-8 in the conference.

BEAVERTON, ORE. -- Willamette University defeated Pacific University, 6-3, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match at the Tualatin Hill Tennis Center on Friday, March 27. The win avenged a 7-2 loss to the Boxers in Salem, Ore., on Feb. 27. In the first meeting, the Bearcats competed without #1 singles and #1 doubles player Shannon Palmer (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) due to injury and illness.

SALEM, ORE. -- Whitman College won #2 doubles in a tie-breaker to complete a sweep of the doubles matches, as the Missionaries defeated Willamette University, 6-3, in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday, March 14 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. Whitman advanced its record to 10-3 overall, including 10-2 in the NWC. Willamette went to 4-8 overall, 3-7 in the NWC.

SALEM, ORE. -- The Pirates of Whitworth University gained an early lead and momentum by sweeping the doubles matches, on their way to a 9-0 victory over Willamette University to remain atop the NWC standing, Friday, March 13 at the Courthouse Tennis Center. Whitworth took over sole possession of first place in the conference at 9-0, one-half match in front of Linfield College, 8-0.

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University freshman Shannon Palmer (Salem, OR/Sprague HS) has been chosen as the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for matches played between March 2 and March 8. Palmer went 3-0 at #1 singles and 3-0 at #1 doubles to lead Willamette to three victories during the week.
