Willamette Blanks Pacific, 9-0
(WOMEN'S TENNIS) SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University kept Pacific University scoreless throughout their Northwest Conference match, as the Bearcats earned a 9-0 victory, Friday, Feb. 23 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. The win improved Willamette to 2-1 in the NWC, while moving the Bearcats to 2-3 overall. Pacific dropped to 0-5 overall, 0-3 in the NWC.

The win improved Willamette to 2-1 in the NWC, while moving the Bearcats to 2-3 overall. Pacific dropped to 0-5 overall, 0-3 in the NWC.
Willamettes sweep of the doubles matches was led by the Bearcats #1 team of Tiffany Kam (Jr., Pearl City, HI/Punahou School) and Alaine Anderson (Jr., Santa Ana, CA/Foothills HS), who defeated Dana Wong and Jaime Joshino, 8-1.
Kam also was victorious at #1 singles, as she downed Wong, 6-1, 6-0. Anderson defeated Pacifics Ashley Spahn in the #3 singles match, 6-3, 6-1. At #2 singles, WU received a 6-0, 6-1 win, as senior Susan Butler (Boise, ID/Boise HS) moved past Yoshino in straight sets.
Although Willamette won all six singles matches in straight sets and lost just 14 total games during singles play, the sweep in doubles was even more dominant. In addition to the 8-1 win by Kam and Anderson, the Bearcats also registered an 8-1 triumph at #2 doubles and an 8-0 shutout at #3 doubles. The #2 doubles match was won by Butler and Becca Younger (So., Albuquerque, NM/Sandia Prep) over Spahn and Laura Swenson. In #3 doubles, the win went to Alyssa Morrison (Fr., Anacortes, WA/Anacortes HS) and Abby Funabiki (So., Pullman, WA/Pullman HS) over Kelly McGee and Sami Richards.
The Bearcats will travel to Tacoma, Wash., to take on Pacific Lutheran University in another NWC match on Saturday, Feb. 24. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PST).
