Puget Sound Defeats Bearcats, 5-0, In NWC Women's Tennis
(WOMENâ??S TENNIS) SALEM, ORE. -- The University of Puget Sound swept the doubles matches, then won two singles matches before rain forced the action to stop, as the Loggers defeated Willamette University, 5-0, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match at the Willamette Tennis Courts on Saturday, March 10. Puget Sound improved to 7-1 overall and to 6-1 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 3-7 on the season, 3-5 in the NWC.

Puget Sound improved to 7-1 overall and to 6-1 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 3-7 on the season, 3-5 in the NWC.
Even though Puget Sound swept the doubles matches, the Bearcats gave UPS tough matches at #2 and #3 doubles. At #2 doubles, WUs Susan Butler (Sr., Boise, ID/Boise HS) and Alaine Anderson (Jr., Steamboat Springs, CO/Foothill HS) dropped an 8-5 decision to Katie Schultz and Katie Russell, while the Cats #3 doubles team of Alyssa Morrison (Fr., Anacortes, WA/Anacortes HS) and Abby Funabiki (So, Pullman, WA/Pullman HS) lost a close match, 8-6, to the Loggers Sam Taylor and Alyssa Wolf.
Only two of the six schedule singles matches were completed before rain stopped the action. Puget Sounds Courtney Dunham downed WUs Tiffany Kam (Jr., Pearl City, HI/Punahou School), 6-1, 6-0, at #1 singles, while the Loggers Katie Russell defeated Emily Elliott (Fr., Woodside, CA/Woodside Priory), 6-0, 6-0, at #4 singles.
Willamette returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Spokane, Wash. to face NWC-rival Whitworth College. The match is set to start at 10 a.m. (PDT).
