FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Willamette University and Pacific University (OR) played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday at Hanson Stadium. Both teams managed just one shot on goal each in a defensive battle. The Bearcats' goalkeeper recorded one save to maintain the shutout, while Pacific's defense held firm with nine total shots, none finding the back of the net.
The first half began with both teams establishing their defensive strategies, as the Bearcats and Pacific exchanged early possessions without major breakthroughs. Siera Edwards, in goal for Willamette, made a crucial save against Taite Taniguchi in the 37th minute, maintaining the scoreless status. Saylor Carroll had a notable attempt just past the 21-minute mark, but the shot veered left.
Despite multiple attempts by Pacific, including a shot from Mirella Garcia that struck the woodwork, the half ended with the score tied at 0-0, as neither team found the back of the net before halftime.
The second half began with both teams seeking to break the deadlock. Willamette's defense held strong early, countering a corner kick from Pacific in the 46th minute. Amanda McArthur tested the Pacific goalkeeper with a shot on target in the 62nd minute, but it was saved, maintaining the scoreless tie.
Throughout the half, the Bearcats generated several offensive opportunities, including a corner kick in the 67th minute, but were unable to convert. Edwards recorded a shutout with one save across 90 minutes in the goal. Claire Warthen attempted the only shot from the midfield but did not find the target.
