SALEM, Ore. – The Willamette University women's golf team opened play as the host of the Willamette Valley Cup on Saturday, with Saida Seelig leading the way for the Bearcats at Creekside Golf Club.
The opening round of the two-day tournament saw a field of 53 golfers take on the 5,505-yard, par-71 course. Seelig, competing as an individual for Willamette, put together a solid performance to position herself in the top half of the leaderboard heading into Sunday's final round.

Seelig carded a 15-over-par 86, placing her in a tie for 26th overall. Her round was highlighted by consistent play in a field that featured several nationally-ranked programs from the Northwest Conference and beyond.

George Fox University leads the team competition after Day 1 with a score of 310 (+26), holding a five-stroke lead over Lewis-Clark State (315). Lewis & Clark sits in third place with a 328.

Individual Leaders
Ashlyn Johnson of George Fox holds the individual lead with a 3-over 74. She is followed closely by a three-way tie for second place at 4-over (75) consisting of Isabella Barquet (LC State), Katelyn Lam (George Fox), and Ahika Jani (Lewis & Clark).
