WU Women's Golf Team Tied for Third after First Day of Pacific Invitational

BANKS, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's golf team was tied with Lewis & Clark College for third place at the Pacific Fall Invitational following the first round of competition on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Quail Valley Golf Course. George Fox University led the team standings with a score of 309. Whitman College was second at 310. Willamette and L&C each finished the day at 329.

Sydney Maluenda of GFU and Catelyn Webber of Whitman were tied for first place in the medalist race with matching 1-over-par 73s. Abigail Heringer of Linfield College was third with a 74 and Brooke Spencer from Corban University was fourth at 76. Lou Points held fifth place with a 77. Two golfers, Whitney Jammerman of GFU and Sofia Vigil of L&C were tied for sixth at 78.

Taneesh Sra (So., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) of Willamette and two other golfers were tied for eighth at 79, six strokes off the pace. Joining Sra with a 79 were Loreece Magsanide and Hailey Ostrom, both from George Fox.

Elise Levy (So., Reno, NV/Bishop Monague HS) carded an 80 for the Bearcats and was tied for 11th place. Mckenzie Weinhold (Jr., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/U. of Nevada-Reno) shot an 82, while Jessi Weaver (Fr., Lincoln City, OR/Taft HS) completed the round with an 88 and LettaJoe Gallup (Jr., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) finished at 91.

A total of 12 teams competed on Saturday. Following the top four teams were Corban in fifth place at 339, Whitworth University in sixth at 340, Pacific Lutheran University in seventh at 342, and Linfield in eighth at 359.

Pacific University was ninth with a score of 364, while Trinity Lutheran College was 10th at 389, with the University of Puget Sound in 11th at 396 and Oregon Institute of Technology in 12th at 397.

The second round of the Pacific Fall Classic will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Quail Valley. Action is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. (PDT).
