Weinhold is Tied for Fifth after First Round of NWC Fall Classic

PORTLAND, ORE. -- A two-over-par 74 by Megan McGrew led all players and the George Fox University Bruins, who began their bid for a third straight Northwest Conference Women's Golf Fall Classic championship with a first-day score of 313 to take a seven-stroke lead in the 2011 Classic Saturday here at the Heron Lakes Golf Course.

The Whitman College Missionaries are second behind George Fox with a 320. Bunched in the middle are the Linfield College Wildcats at 340, the Willamette University Bearcats at 342, the Whitworth University Pirates at 344, and the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes at 357. The Pacific University Boxers are seventh at 403, and the Puget Sound Loggers are eighth at 448. The Lewis & Clark College Pioneers have three individuals entered but no team score.

One stroke behind McGrew on the leaderboard is Tate Head of Whitman with a 75. Kelsey Morrison of George Fox is third at 78, followed by Hannah Christianson of Linfield at 79. Loreece Magsanide of George Fox, Mckenzie Weinhold (Fr., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/Univ. of Nevada-Reno) from Willamette, and Katie Zajicek of Whitman are tied for fifth with 80s.

The final round of the Women's Fall Classic, which is being played on the par-72, 5,813-yard Green Back course, gets under way Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. The Fall Classic counts as one quarter of the score toward the overall conference title, with the Spring Classic as another quarter and the NWC Championship Tournament as one half of the total team score.
