Horner Named NWC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week
Gio Horner was named the Northwest Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of December 2 - 9 based on her performance in a 76-72 overtime victory over Lewis & Clark College.
Horner led the Bearcats with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 steals in the conference opener for both teams. She was 6-12 from the field, 2-3 from beyond the arc, and 5-10 at the foul line. Trailing 64-62 with only nine seconds left, Kaitlin Imai found Horner in the right corner and she buried a three-pointer with under a second left to put Willamette up 65-64. In overtime, she scored four of Willamette's first six points to give them a lead they wouldn't give up.
The stats for the game were all career-hights for the first-year from Missoula, Montana. Horner had previously scored 16 points against Multnomah University and pulled down six rebounds versus East Texas Baptist. Her previous high in steals was two against Christopher Newport University.
