Towry Earns NWC Student-Athlete of the Week in Women's Basketball
SALEM, ORE. -- A successful weekend of long-range field goal shooting has resulted in Kylie Towry (Fr., G, Medford, OR/South Medford HS) of Willamette University being named Northwest Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in games played on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22.
Hits 15 of 20 Three-Pointers, Sets School Record with Nine against Caltech
SALEM, ORE. -- A successful weekend of long-range field goal shooting has resulted in Kylie Towry (Fr., G, Medford, OR/South Medford HS) of Willamette University being named Northwest Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in games played on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22.
During Willamette's two games in the Grand Classic, Towry hit 15 of 20 three-point shots (75.0%) and averaged 24.0 points per game. She sank a school record nine 3-pointers on Friday in Willamette's 81-47 victory over Caltech. She connected on six more 3-pointers on Saturday in a 73-52 loss to University of California, Santa Cruz.
Her nine 3-pointers against Caltech broke the previous Willamette record of seven 3-pointers in a single game, set by three former Bearcats.
Amy Ulrey was the first WU player to hit seven trifectas in a game, when she accomplished the feat against Eastern Oregon University on Jan. 3, 1995. Kelly Sorenson made seven three-pointers against Howard Payne University on Nov. 24, 2000. Alex Zennan put through seven threes versus Linfield College on Jan. 9, 2010.
Against Caltech, Towry scored 27 points and hauled down three rebounds, while earning one assist and one steal. In the game with UC Santa Cruz, she contributed 21 points, grabbed five boards and provided two assists.
For the week, she was 15 of 21 from the field (71.4%) and 3 for 3 at the free throw line. In addition to averaging 24.0 points per game she supplied the Bearcats with 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.5 steals per contest.
Towry is Willamette's leading scorer for the season with 17.3 points per game. She is 21 of 37 on field goals (56.8%) and 21 of 35 on 3-pointers (60.0%). She has converted 6 of 7 free throws (85.7%).
The Bearcats are 2-2 overall and will take on Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Ore., on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. (PST). Willamette will play at home on Wednesday, Nov. 25 against Concordia University (Ore.). Tipoff at Cone Field House is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Kylie Towry averaged 24.0 points per game and connected on 15 of 20 three-pointers in Willamette's games against Caltech and UC Santa Cruz.
