Willamette to Take on Corban in Track and Field on Thursday
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University and Corban University will compete in a dual track and field meet on Thursday, March 19 at Charles Bowles Track. The track events will get underway at 3:30 p.m. (PDT), with the field events starting at 4 p.m. The hammer throw was held on Wednesday, March 18.

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University and Corban University will compete in a dual track and field meet on Thursday, March 19 at Charles Bowles Track. The track events will get underway at 3:30 p.m. (PDT), with the field events starting at 4 p.m. The hammer throw was held on Wednesday, March 18.
This past weekend, the Bearcats won three events at the Saints Open, hosted by Mount Hood Community College. It was a large meet with multiple heats in most events.
Daniel Swanson of Willamette took first place in the men's 1,500-meter run, while Olivia Mancl (So., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) led a 1-2-3-5-6-8 finish by the Bearcats in the women's 1,500-meter run. Kaeleigh Thorp (Sr., Sam Leandro, CA/Encinal HS) won the women's hammer throw.
Maura Forbush (So., Hollister, CA/San Benito HS) took second in the women's 400-meter dash and moved into 10th place on Willamette's all-time list.
Entering this week, the Bearcats had 11 athletes ranked in the top 10 nationally on the NCAA Division III performance list. Forbush was ranked in the top 10 in three events, while Michaela Freeby (Sr., Milwaukie, OR/Rex Putnam HS), Olivia Mancl (So., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS), and Tyler Higley (Sr., Aloha, OR/Aloha HS) were each ranked in the top 10 in two events.
Forbush is ranked second nationally in the 400-meter dash with her time at the Saints Open of 58.54 seconds. She is seventh in the 200-meter dash at 25.80 seconds and is ninth in the 100-meter dash at 12.77 seconds. She recorded her times in the 100 and the 200 at the Willamette Opener on March 7.
Freeby is listed sixth in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.59 at the Willamette Opener. She is eighth in the 1,500-meter run at 4:49.22. Mancl is fourth in the women's 1,500-meter run with a top result of 4:41.41, while Taylor Ostrander (Jr., Kenai, AK/Kenai Central HS) is 10th in the 1,500 at 4:52.40. All three times in the 1,500 were registered at the Saints Open.
In addition, Mancl is eighth in the 5,00-meter run. She achieved a time of 17:58.71 at the Willamette Opener.
Grant Lindley (Fr., Monmouth HS/Central HS) is 10th in the men's 400-meter dash. His top time is 50.14 seconds during the Saints Open.
Several of Willamette's top 10 national rankings prior to Wednesday were in field events, including marks by three members of the women's team in the hammer throw.
The hammer results were recorded at the WU Opener, with Kaeleigh Thorp (Sr., Sam Leandro, CA/Encinal HS) leading the way at 147' 11" for fifth on the national list. Jossalyn Wright (Sr., Aumsville, OR/Cascade HS) threw 143' 2" for ninth on the NCAA Division III list, while Kelsey Engstrom (Sr., Clinton, WA/South Whidbey HS) ranked 10th at 141'6".
Higley was ranked in the men's shot put and the men's hammer throw. He was fourth in the shot put at 48' 11" and was sixth in the hammer throw at 157' 11". Both of his top distances were at the WU Opener.
Molly Bond (Sr., Clarkston, WA/Asotin HS) holds fourth place on the national list in the long jump. Her best distance was at the WU opener, when she registered a jump of 17' 1.5".
