Swanson Chosen as NWC Men's Track Student-Athlete of the Week
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University runner Daniel Swanson (Sr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) has been named Northwest Conference Men's Track Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Saints Open on Saturday, March 14.
Earns First Place in 1,500-Meter Run at Saints Open
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University runner Daniel Swanson (Sr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) has been named Northwest Conference Men's Track Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Saints Open on Saturday, March 14.
Swanson won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:02.82. His time ranks first in the Northwest Conference and is 12th on the NCAA Division III performance list. At the Saints Open, he recorded the fastest time out of 48 runners. Teammate Yonny Castillo (Jr., Parkdale, OR/Hood River Valley HS) placed sixth in 4:06.75.
The Saints Open was held at Earl Klapstein Stadium on the campus of Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.
A week earlier at the Willamette Opener, Swanson set a personal record of 1:57.95 in the 800-meter run while finishing in seventh place.
The Bearcat track and field teams will be back in action on Thursday, March 19 in a dual meet against Corban University. The hammer throw will be held a day earlier on Wednesday, March 18 at 4:30 p.m. (PST) behind the Math Learning Center at 1850 Oxford SE. On Thursday, the track events will get underway at 3:30 p.m., with the field events starting at 4 p.m.
