Wright Tops Hammer Field, Swansonâ??s Finish 2nd in 1,500
McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Jossalyn Wright (Sr., Aumsville, OR/Cascade HS) topped the field in the womenâ??s hammer throw at the Linfield Jenn Boyman Invitational. Her throw of 47.26m (155â?? 1) was a new personal best, but she maintains her number three ranking on the Willamette all-time list. She is currently 28th on the NCAA Division III performance list.

Her throw of 47.26m (155 1) was a new personal best, but she maintains her number three ranking on the Willamette all-time list. She is currently 28th on the NCAA Division III performance list.
Also competing in the hammer throw, Angie Turpen (So., Alsea, OR/Alsea HS) set a new personal best with a toss of 41.61m (136' 6"). She moved up to number nine on the Willamette all-time list with her 7th place finish. Kelsey Engstrom (Sr., Clinton, WA/South Whidbey HS) was fourth with a distance of 42.54m (139' 7").
In the 1,500-meter run, Daniel Swanson (Sr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) and his younger sister Hannah Swanson (Fr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) both finished second in their respective fields. Hannah finished with her best time this season, 4:44.44, while her brother crossed the line in 4:03.75. Hannah is currently 18th in NCAA Division III and is second in the Northwest Conference behind teammate Olivia Mancl (So., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS).
Three Bearcat men set new personal bests in 1,500: Nathan Conrad (Jr., Bothell, WA/Bothell HS) 4:12.73, Ben Mow (Sr., Granite Falls, WA/Granite Falls HS) 4:05.54 and Devin Vinoray (Jr., Makawao, HI/Seabury Hall) 4:27.79.
Maura Forbush (So., Hollister, CA/San Benito HS) placed second in the womens 100-meter dash with a new personal best of 12.69. She continues to lead the Northwest Conference in the 400-meter dash.
In the womens discus, Kaeleigh Thorp (Sr., San Leandro, CA/Encinal HS) walked away with a second place finish and a new personal best. Her throw of 39.24m (128' 9") betters her previous mark by over four feet. Jossalyn Wright finished fourth with a throw of 37.39m (122 8).
For the third week in a row, Kelsey Engstrom improved her personal best in the shot put. She finished 4th with a throw of 12.19m (40' 0"), over a foot further than her mark from last weekend.
Elisa Ahern (Sr., Lake Forest Park, WA/Shorecrest HS) finished fifth in the 100-meter Hurdles. Her time of 15.88 was just two tenths from her lifetime best.
In her 400-meter dash collegiate debut, Kylea Johnson (Jr., Onalaska WA/Onalaska HS) finished fourth in 59.63.
In the mens hammer throw, Tyler Higley (Sr., Aloha, OR/Aloha HS) threw a season best 50.26m (164' 11"). It put him at 32nd on the NCAA Division III list and was good enough for fifth place at the meet. He finished second in the shot put with a toss of 14.26m (46' 9.5"), while Hans Lehndorff (Jr., Boulder, CO/Boulder HS) was sixth in the discus with a throw of 43.10m (141' 5").
Parris Joyce (Jr., Portland, OR/Catlin Gabel School) was eighth in the mens 400-meter dash with a new personal best of 51.47. Erik Spangberg (Fr., San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) made his collegiate debut with a 11.39 in the 100-meter dash and a 22.89 in the 200-meter dash.
The Bearcat Track & Field teams head to Monmouth, Oregon, next Friday (April 10) for the John Knight Twilight. The Western Oregon University meet will be the last competition before the Northwest Conference Championships.
This year's NWC Championships will be hosted by George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon, on April 24th and 25th.Currently the Willamette men have 23 athletes qualified with 49 event entries, and the WU women have 29 athletes who have qualified with 72 entries.
Jossalyn Wright won the hammer throw with a new personal record.
Tyler Higley was 2nd in the shot put and 5th in the hammer.
Hannah Swanson finished 2nd in the 1,500-meter run.
