Colignon and Miller Hold Leads after First Day of Linfield Multi-Events

McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Willamette athletes Evin Colignon (Sr., Poulsbo, WA/Charles Wright Academy) and Brandi Miller (Jr., Grants Pass, OR/North Valley HS) hold leads after the first day of the Linfield Multi-Events on Monday, March 21.

Colignon heads the field in the decathlon with a score of 3,300 points after five events. Miller leads the heptathlon after four events with a score of 2,355 points.

On Monday, Colignon built a lead of 282 points over Tyler Lane from Clark College, who was second with 3,018 points. Barrett Bollen of Pacific Lutheran University was third with a score of 2,960. Overall, there were six competitors in the decathlon.

Colignon placed first in the long jump and the shot put, was second in the 100-meter dash and the 400-meter dash, and took third in the high jump. His winning attempt in the long jump was a personal record of 20'10.50". He won the shot put with a throw of 43'9.75". He recorded a time of 12.06 seconds in the 100-meter dash and was clocked at 52.46 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

During the first five events, Colignon scored a high of 713 points in the 400-meter dash. He had three scores well into the 600's, with 689 i the shot put, 666 in the long jump and 639 in the 100-meter dash.

Other event winners in the decathlon were Bollen in both of the dashes and Lane in the high jump. Bollen took first place in 100 in 11.79 seconds and won the 400 in 50.49 seconds. Lane cleared 6'5.50" in the high jump.

Miller placed first in the 100-meter hurdles at 16.26 seconds to open the heptathlon with her highest score of the day (683). She placed second in the 200-meter dash in 27.73 seconds and was third in both the high jump and the shot put. She earned a personal record in the shot put with a toss of 31'8.75". She cleared 4'7" on her best attempt in the high jump. She scored more than 500 points in all four events.

Following Miller in the heptathlon standings were Kristina Hossley of Southwestern Oregon Community College in second place and Kelly Millager of SWOCC in third place. Hossley accumulated 2,216 points, while Millager achieved 2,192 points. Six of the 11 athletes entered in the heptathlon scored more than 2,000 points.

Joining Miller as event winners were Millager in the high jump, Anna LaBeaume of Linfield College in the shot put and Katheryn Jahnsen of Pacific Lutheran University in the 200-meter dash. Millager won the high jump by leaping over 5'1", while LaBeaume took first in the shot put with a distance of 38'6.25". Jahnsen finished first in the 200 in 27.19 seconds.

The Linfield Multi-Events will conclude on Tuesday, March 22 with the final five events in the decathlon and the last three events in the heptathlon.
