Bearcats can't hang with Wildcats
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — Willamette University (6-9, 3-2) faced a tough doubleheader against No. 8 Linfield University (6-2, 3-2) on Saturday, falling 8–0 in the first game and 9–0 in the second, both concluding in five innings.
In the first game, despite the loss, the Bearcats managed to draw two walks and record two hits, but their offense was stifled by Linfield's pitching. Linfield's lineup was effective, gathering 11 hits, including a home run, and capitalizing on six walks to secure the victory. Linfield took control in the second inning, capitalizing on a pair of singles and aggressive baserunning to score three runs. After a single by Kaia Young advanced a runner to third, a double steal allowed a run to score. A subsequent single and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded expanded Linfield's lead to 3–0.
Willamette's opportunities were limited, with Desirae Hatfield drawing a walk and Maya Filger following suit in the second inning, but both were left stranded. Lauren Stube provided a spark in the fourth with a single, but the effort stalled after a flyout and a groundout. Despite some hits, including a single by Maris Pinheiro in the third, the Bearcats were unable to bring runners home.
