SALEM, ORE. -- The two Willamette University softball games scheduled for Friday, April 2 have been canceled due to weather. Willamette will reschedule the games against Pacific Lutheran University at a date still to be determined. The games scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, April 3, are still set to begin at 12 p.m. at the Willamette softball field.

PORTLAND, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team used explosive offense to defeat Lewis & Clark College, 15-1 on Sunday, March 28 in Northwest Conference action. WU earned the win on the run rule in five innings. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain and will be finished at a date to be determined later. WU was leading 3-1 in the top of the second inning when the game was postponed.

PORTLAND, ORE. -- Willamette University, ranked #18 in NCAA Division III, swept a Northwest Conference doubleheader from Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, March 27 at the Huston Sports Complex. Willamette won 13-5 in the first game and 12-5 in the second game.

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team dropped a close game to visiting Oregon Institute of Technology, 8-6 in eight innings, on Thursday, March 25. The Bearcats, ranked #18 in the nation in NCAA Division III, dropped their record to 15-5. Oregon Tech, which competes in the NAIA, moved to 16-14 on the season.

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team will finally get to play at home on Wednesday, March 24 after 18 consecutive road games to start the season. Willamette will open its home schedule by hosting Oregon Institute of Technology in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. (PDT) at the WU Softball Field.

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University scored seven runs in the third inning to take a commanding lead and went on to defeat visiting Oregon Institute of Technology, 8-1, at the WU Softball Field on Wednesday, March 24. The Bearcats, ranked #18 in the nation in NCAA Division III, upped their record to 15-4. Oregon Tech, which competes in the NAIA, fell to 15-14 on the season.

SALEM, ORE. -- Capital Community Television (CCTV) in Salem, Ore., has announced the broadcast times for several of the Willamette University baseball and softball games it will be showing on a tape-delayed basis this spring. CCTV is a local cable television company that has a history of providing quality athletic broadcasts of college and high school events in the Salem area.

FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team split two games against Pacific University on Sunday, March 21. The Bearcats lost the first game, 6-5 but rallied for a win in the second game, 9-8. WU won three of the four games against the Boxers this weekend.

FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Bri Compton (Jr., P, Kalispell, MT/Wenatchee Valley CC) pitched a complete game in the circle for the Bearcats as the Willamette University softball team defeated Pacific University, 5-3 on Saturday, March 20 in the first game of a doubleheader. Willamette captured another victory in game two, 6-1.

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University has announced the schedule of webcasts for baseball and softball games during the 2010 season. Full Access Sports will produce the Live Audio Webcasts and will supply the on-air announcers for each event. Webcasts will be provided for three doubleheaders and one single game in baseball, plus four doubleheaders in softball.

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team is ranked #18 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Top 25 released on Wednesday, March 17. The Bearcats are currently 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the Northwest Conference. WU just returned from the Leadoff Classic in Panama City, Fla. Willamette went 4-2 at the prestigious tournament.

PANAMA CITY, FLA. -- Willamette University lost to Cortland State (N.Y.) in the semifinal round of the Silver Bracket, 9-1, on the run rule in five innings, but edged out the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), 2-1, in the third place game, during the final day of the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic on Sunday, March 14. WU went 4-2 at the tournament, as the Bearcats moved to 11-3 on the season.

PANAMA CITY, FLA. -- The Willamette University softball team defeated Ramapo College, 7-3 on Saturday, March 13 at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic. The Bearcats are 1-0 in the silver bracket play. With the win, WU is now 3-1 at the Leadoff Classic after playing four opponents that qualified for the regionals in last year's NCAA DIII National Championship.

PANAMA CITY, FLA. -- The University of Texas at Tyler, ranked #2 in NCAA Division III, used one big inning to defeat Willamette University, 5-2, in the final game of pool play for both teams at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic on Saturday, March 13. UT-Tyler remained undefeated at 9-0, 3-0 in the tournament, while Willamette moved to 9-2 overall, 2-1 in the tournament.

PANAMA CITY, FLA. -- The Willamette University softball team scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning -- capped by a three-run homer from Mica Romero (So., SS, Woodland, CA/Woodland Christian HS) -- as the Bearcats rallied past the University of La Verne, 5-1, at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic on Friday, March 12. In game two, the Bearcats found their offensive groove in the middle innings and held on for a 6-5 victory over Cortland State.

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University's Mica Romero (So., SS, Woodland, CA/Woodland Christian HS) was named Northwest Conference Offensive/Field Softball Student-Athlete of the Week for her contributions during the Bearcats' four-game series at the University of Puget Sound on March 6-7. Romero batted .714 during her four starts at shortstop and accumulated 10 hits during Willamette's weekend sweep of UPS.

TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University softball team opened Northwest Conference play with a pair of victories over the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, March 6. Willamette won the first game, 4-3. In the second game, the Bearcats plated six runs in the fourth inning on their way to an 11-4 victory.

CLACKAMAS, ORE. -- Willamette University scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the College of Idaho, 7-6, and scored three runs in the third inning in a 5-2 victory over the University of British Columbia, on the final day of the Northwest Cup on Sunday, Feb. 21. Willamette finished the tournament at Hood View Park with a 3-1 record.

CLACKAMAS, ORE. -- Willamette University's softball team opened the 2010 season with a 1-1 split in their first set of games at the Northwest Cup. Willamette dropped the first game to tournament host Concordia University (Ore.), 5-4. The Bearcats battled back to win the second game, 7-2, against Northwest Christian University.

SALEM, ORE. -- Head Softball Coach Damian Williams and the Willamette University Bearcats have spent a busy off-season preparing for the opening of the 2010 schedule. The Bearcats will have a young roster but return several key players from the 2009 team that went 29-6 overall and 22-6 in the Northwest Conference.

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University has been predicted to take second place in Northwest Conference softball this season, according to the league's head coaches in the NWC Preseason Poll. The Bearcats, who finished the 2009 season at 29-6 overall and 22-6 in the NWC, were ranked in the poll behind only defending NWC champion Linfield College.

SALEM, ORE. -- Three Willamette University softball players have been honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as 2009 All-America Scholar-Athletes. The Bearcat athletes are Marissa Richards (B.A. '09, 1B, Newberg, OR/Newberg HS), Alex Watilo (Fr. in '09, RHP, Newcastle, CA/Del Oro HS) and Emily Bray (Fr. in '09, IF, Martinez, CA/Alhambra HS).

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team hosted its annual Alumni Day on Saturday, Oct. 10. Activities got underway with a game between the returning players and a team of alumni and freshmen. The returning players won the game, 5-4. More than 100 people attended the teamâ??s Awards Dinner. Jodi Hanauska, who played at Willamette from 1992 through 1995, was honored as the 2009 Willamette Softball Distinguished Alum.
