Bearcats Drop a Pair of Dual Matches against Pacific

Forest Grove, Ore. - The Men's Tennis team suffered a pair of tough losses at Pacific University on Saturday, falling to the Boxers 7-0 in both matches.  The Bearcats put pressure on Pacific during Doubles play in the second match and AJ Avansino lost a hard-fought match tie-breakers at #1 Singles, but Willamette wasn't able to come away with any points on the day.

The doubles matches set the tone in the opening match. While the pairings of Olander/Snyder, Casano/Livengood, and Avansino/Lief played hard, they were unable to secure a win against the Pacific lineup. The closest match came at the #1 Doubles position, with Zack Olander and Hudson Snyder putting up a fight before falling 6-3.  In the afternoon, Baily Livengood and Luca Casano found the same 6-3 outcome in their match at #2 Doubles.

The Boxers swept the singles matches on the day, taking all six flights in the opening match in straight sets.  AJ Avansino was able to push his opponent Joshua Dela Cruz in a 6-3, 6-4 outcome and then was able to split sets in the second match, winning the second set 6-3 after falling 6-3 in the opening set.  The two battled in a match tie-break, eventually won 10-6 by Dela Cruz.  

The Bearcats play their final matches of the season next weekend when they host George Fox on Saturday, April 12th, and travel to compete against Linfield University on Sunday, April 13th.
