Freeland Plays a Tight Match at #6 Singles as Men's Tennis Falls to George Fox
Newberg, Ore. – The Willamette Bearcats men's tennis team suffered a tough 7-0 defeat at the hands of the George Fox Bruins on Saturday, March 8th. While the Bearcats fought hard, they were unable to secure a single set against a strong and determined George Fox squad.
The doubles matches set the tone for the afternoon, with the Bruins sweeping all three pairings. Zack Olander and Hudson Snyder put up a valiant effort against Lars Schmassmann and Ikuho Ebisu in the number one doubles match, falling 6-3. The singles matches mirrored the doubles performance. AJ Avansino, facing Schmassmann at number one singles, battled hard but ultimately fell 6-0, 6-2. Similar results followed across the board, with Hudson Snyder, Zack Olander, Baily Livengood, and Luca Casano all facing defeat. The closest match of the day came at number six singles, where Jake Freeland pushed Joseph Vece to a tiebreaker before ultimately falling 6-2, 7-6(10-3).
Willamette returns to action on Sunday, March 9th, when they host Linfield Universty at 11:00 am.
