Willamette Men's Soccer Victorious
SALEM, Ore. — Willamette University secured a 1-0 victory over Lewis & Clark College on Saturday at Sparks Field. The decisive goal came in the second half as part of a dominant offensive effort, with the Bearcats recording 22 shots, 9 of which were on target. The defense held firm, allowing just 4 shots and earning a shutout.
Paddy Bell scored the game-winning goal for the Bearcats, finishing with one goal from four shots, two of which were on target. Mikkel Jensen secured a shutout, facing four shots without recording a save in the full 90 minutes. Rory McKee contributed with an assist and managed two shots, with one on goal. Dylan Ray also provided an assist, helping to drive the team's offensive efforts.
The first half began with the Bearcats actively pressing forward, generating numerous opportunities early on. Dylan Rosie initiated the attack with a shot in the third minute, but it veered off target. Brenden Pineda and Bell followed with attempts that tested Lewis & Clark's goalkeeper, Micaiah Garan, who made key saves to keep the match level.
The Bearcats continued to pressure with multiple corner kicks and shots throughout the half. Despite the offensive efforts, including a notable attempt by Lorcan Oliver in the 41st minute, Garan maintained a clean sheet for the visitors. The first half concluded with the score tied at 0-0, as the Bearcats' opportunities did not translate into goals.
The second half began intensely, with the Bearcats' defense holding firm while the offense sought opportunities. Despite multiple attempts from Ky Iliev and others, Lewis & Clark's goalkeeper Micaiah Garan kept the scoreline intact until the 79th minute.
Bell broke the deadlock with a decisive goal, assisted by McKee and Ray, shifting momentum in the Bearcats' favor. The team maintained their lead through strong defensive plays, securing a 1-0 victory as the half concluded.
Willamette improved to 2-5-5 overall and 2-2-4 in conference play. Lewis & Clark fell to 0-10-1 overall and 0-7-0 in conference play.
Looking ahead, the Bearcats will hit the road for an encounter with Pacific University on October 12. The match is set to kick off at 2:45 p.m. in Forest Grove, OR.
