Bearcats Battle Through 34 Holes at Weather-Impacted NCAA Golf Championship
Penfield, New York - Because of inclement weather, day three of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship moved to continuous play, which meant teams played as many holes as they could on Thursday to finish round three and begin round four. With the earliest tee time, Willamette Men's Golf made it through 34 holes on the day, leaving players with two or fewer to finish when the final round starts on Friday morning.
As a team, the Bearcats shot a 305 in the third round, led by both Brock Olson and Alexander Papajohn at 75. Jack Carr followed not far behind with a five-over 77, and Oliver Smith finished out the team score with a six-over par 78. Lucas Paul was the final member of the team, coming in right behind Smith at 79.
Willamette moved on to the fourth round and was able to complete most of it before darkness suspended play. If weather allows, the team will attempt to finish its round on Friday morning. If any teams are unable to complete the final round, the final round scores will not count, and the standings will revert to the end of the third round, which found the Bearcats in 17th place overall.
