Bearcats bury Lutes

PARKLAND, Wash. — Willamette University (13-9, 8-5 NWC) secured a commanding 99-70 victory over Pacific Lutheran University (10-11, 4-8 NWC) at Olson Auditorium on Saturday. The Bearcats dominated with a strong offensive performance, scoring 42 points in the paint and capitalizing on the Lutes' 17 turnovers. The visitors led by 20 at the half and maintained control throughout, with their bench contributing 31 points to the win.
Willamette capitalized on their offensive efficiency in the first half, outscoring PLU 54-34. The Bearcats dominated inside, scoring 26 points in the paint, while also converting eight fast-break points. Their defensive efforts were highlighted by six steals, which contributed to their ability to turn seven turnovers into scoring opportunities. The Bearcats' bench added 18 points, providing significant depth in the opening half.
Willamette dominated the second half, outscoring the Lutes by nine points, ultimately sealing the game with a 45-36 effort in the half. The Bearcats' efficiency was evident as they converted 14 of 31 field goals and capitalized on 13 of 20 free throws. Their defense forced 10 turnovers and generated 12 points off turnovers, while also edging out PLU in fast-break points, 10 to nine. At the final buzzer, Willamette held a commanding lead, finishing ahead 99-70.
