Willamette Overpowers Northwest Indian in Dominant Home Victory
SALEM, Ore. — Willamette University dominated Northwest Indian 128-68 on Monday at Cone Field House. The Bearcats' offense was propelled by a remarkable 19 three-pointers and a strong performance in the paint, contributing 54 points. The home team capitalized on turnovers, converting them into 34 points, and showcased depth with 72 points from the bench. Northwest Indian's effort included 24 points in the paint but was unable to close the gap.
Willamette established an early lead with a strong start, highlighted by converting nine 3-pointers and forcing 11 turnovers from Northwest Indian. Their defense held the visitors to just 33 percent shooting, while the home side capitalized on turnovers, scoring 23 points off them. At the end of the first half, the Bearcats led 68-29.
Willamette extended its lead with a decisive 60-39 second half, fueled by converting 10 of 22 from 3-point range and scoring 20 points in the paint. The home team capitalized on Northwest Indian's eight turnovers, generating 11 points off those mistakes. The Bearcats' bench outscored the visitors' reserves 44-19, contributing to a substantial advantage. At the end of the half, the scoreboard read Bearcats 128, Northwest Indian 68.
Willamette improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in NWC play after their decisive victory. Northwest Indian is now 0-10 on the season following the loss.
