Bearcats Dominate George Fox in 81–61 Road Victory
NEWBERG, Ore. — Willamette University defeated George Fox University 81-61 at Wheeler Sports Center on Friday night. The Bearcats led by 10 at halftime and secured the win with a strong second-half performance, highlighted by forcing 27 turnovers and scoring 44 points in the paint. The Bruins hit nine 3-pointers but struggled to close the gap in the second half.
Willamette capitalized on its defensive pressure and efficiency in the paint to seize early control against George Fox. The Bearcats recorded nine steals and forced 12 turnovers, converting those opportunities into a notable 20 points in the paint. The visiting bench contributed 11 points, adding depth to their offensive efforts. At the end of the first half, the Bearcats led 34-24.
The Bearcats executed a commanding performance in the second half, leveraging strong defensive play to generate scoring opportunities. The visiting team capitalized on 23 points off turnovers and dominated the paint with 24 points, while shooting 9-for-17 from the free-throw line. George Fox struggled with ball control, committing 15 turnovers, which Willamette converted into a significant offensive advantage. At the end of the half, the Bearcats led 81-61.
Willamette improved to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in Northwest Conference play. George Fox fell to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in conference competition.
In their next game, the Bearcats will host Northwest Indian School on Monday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. in Salem, Oregon.
