Men's Basketball Earns Team Academic Award for Ninth Time in Ten Years
SALEM, Ore. -- The Willamette University men's basketball team has qualified for the Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for the 2023-24 season. The Bearcats received the honor for the ninth time in the last ten years.
This year, 360 college teams from all three NCAA divisions, both NAIA divisions, and the NJCAA qualified for the award. Willamette and Oregon State were the only Oregon-based NCAA teams to receive the honor for 2023-24.
To qualify for the Team Academic Excellence Award, a team must earn at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Each team's GPA included all players on the roster during the 2023-24 season.
Willamette also had four individuals earn NABC Honors Court, including junior, senior, and graduate student men’s basketball players who finished the 2023-24 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The four individuals who earned NABC Honors Court were Jack Boydell (Gr., Sonoma, CA/Sonoma Valley HS), Dylan Green (Jr., Lakewood, CO/Green Mountain HS), Paul McSlarrow (Sr., Sandy, UT/The Waterford School), and Gavin Weisweaver (Jr., Boise, ID/Vallivue HS).
