Snodgrass scores on 90 yard romp in win over La Verne
LA VERNE, Calif. — Willamette University defeated the University of La Verne 29-14 on Saturday at Ortmayer Stadium. The Bearcats dominated the second quarter, scoring 22 unanswered points, highlighted by a remarkable 90-yard rushing touchdown. This impressive run by Austin Snodgrass is tied for the third-longest in Willamette's record books, sharing the spot with achievements by Andy Miguel against Linfield on November 11, 2000, and Justin Peterson versus Southern Oregon on October 6, 2001. The defense also contributed significantly, recovering four fumbles and returning one for a touchdown.
Austin Snodgrass led the Willamette offense with 99 rushing yards on 10 carries and found the end zone for a touchdown. Jonah Luhrsen contributed significantly in the air attack, catching five passes for 76 yards. Javi Rodriguez made a major defensive impact with a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery returned 54 yards for a touchdown. On defense, Valor Munoz added an interception to his two tackles, providing a crucial turnover for the team.
The Bearcats improved to 1-2 overall following their victory. La Verne opened their season with an 0-1 record after the loss.
The next challenge for the Bearcats is a trip to Tacoma, Washington, where they will face Pacific Lutheran University. The game is set for Sunday, October 5, at 1 p.m.
