Former Bearcat Matthaei is Assistant Offensive Line Coach for Chiefs in Super Bowl

SALEM, Ore. -- When the National Football League's Super Bowl LIV gets underway on Sunday, Feb. 2, former Willamette University offensive lineman Corey Matthaei will be representing the Bearcats as the assistant offensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs during their championship battle with the San Francisco 49ers. Matthaei, who was an offensive lineman with the Bearcats from 2003 through 2006, graduated from Willamette with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Science in 2007. He is in his sixth season with the Chiefs after joining the team in 2013.
Matthaei was the offensive quality control coach for the Chiefs in 2013 and 2014. He served as Kansas City's assistant quarterbacks coach from 2015-17, and is now in his second season as the assistant offensive line coach. he also helped with the offensive line while working as the assistant quarterbacks coach. Prior to arriving in Kansas City, Matthaei was an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL for five years (2008-12).
While attending Willamette and playing football, Matthaei helped the Bearcats achieve an overall record of 22-17, including an 8-3 record in 2004. Willamette's 2004 team qualified for the NCAA Division III Playoffs before falling to Occidental College (Calif.) in the first round. During Matthaei's four years at Willamette, the offensive line helped the Bearcats rush for a total of 9,913 yards and 103 touchdowns. Matthaei was an assistant offensive coach at Willamette in 2007.
