Football Game Matches Willamette's Passing against Sewanee's Rushing

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University football team, 3-0, on the season, plays in Tennessee today against Sewanee: University of the South, 2-0 overall. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CDT/11 a.m. PDT.

Willamette enters the game ranked first in NCAA Division III in passing offense with 407.0 passing yards per game. Quarterback Josh Dean (Jr., Dana Point, CA/Dana Hills HS) is the individual leader in passing yards per game with 375.7 yards per contest. He has completed 92 of 135 passes (68.1%) for 1,127 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Wide receiver Jake Turner (Sr., Ontario, OR/Ontario HS) ranks fourth in the nation in receiving yards per game. He has caught 22 passes for 384 yards, an average of 128.0 yards per game. Turner has scored on four touchdown catches.

Sewanee, which runs a triple-option offense, is ranked fifth in NCAA Division III in rushing offense. The Tigers are averaging 334.2 yards per game on the ground and have picked up 5.0 yards per carry.

The leading rusher for Sewanee is quarterback Curtis Johnson (Jr.), who has rushed 68 times for 288 yards (4.2 avg.) and three touchdowns. Sergio Acosta (Sr., FB) has carried the ball 52 times for 277 yards (5.3 avg.) and has scored one touchdown. Jase Brooks (Sr., RB) has rushed just 33 times for 171 yards (5.2 avg.), but leads the Tigers with four rushing touchdowns.

Sewanee has passed the ball just 24 times in four games. Johnson is 10 of 16 (62.5%) for 130 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. The Willamette defense has intercepted 11 passes and forced 17 total turnovers so far this season.
