Dean is Selected NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week
SALEM, ORE. -- Junior quarterback Josh Dean (Dana Point, CA/Dana Hills HS) of Willamette University has been chosen Northwest Conference Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts against Pacific University on Saturday, Sept. 22. Dean passed for four touchdowns and ran for one touchdown, as the Bearcats defeated the Boxers, 51-17, at McCulloch Stadium.
Throws for 353 Yards and 4 Touchdowns in 51-17 Win over Pacific
SALEM, ORE. -- Junior quarterback Josh Dean (Dana Point, CA/Dana Hills HS) of Willamette University has been chosen Northwest Conference Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts against Pacific University on Saturday, Sept. 22. Dean passed for four touchdowns and ran for one touchdown, as the Bearcats defeated the Boxers, 51-17, at McCulloch Stadium.
It is the second time that Dean has been selected as the Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week this season. He also received the honor following Willamette's 58-34 victory at Hardin-Simmons University in the season opener on Sept. 1.
Against Pacific, Dean completed 33 of 46 passes (71.7%)for 353 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. His touchdowns covered 1, 22, 1 and 44 yards. He threw two touchdown passes in each half and led Willamette on three scoring drives of 10 or more plays (11, 13, 10).
His 44-yard pass to Benny Weischedel (Sr., TE, San Pedro, CA/San Pedro HS) with 6:46 left in the third quarter gave Willamette a 37-10 lead. Dean left the game after scoring on a 4-yard touchdown run with 14:22 remaining in the fourth quarter, as WU's lead increased to 44-10.
Dean has connected on 68.1% of his passes this season for 1,127 yards (375.67 avg.) and 14 touchdowns. He is a key reason Willamette is ranked #1 in NCAA Division III in passing offense with 407.0 passing yards per game.
On the NCAA Division III individual statistics, Dean is ranked #1 in the nation with passing yards per game. He is #2 in pass completions per game (30.67) and is #3 in total offense per game (378.67 yards).
The Bearcats will travel to Tennessee for their next game, a match-up with Sewanee: University of the South on Saturday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CDT)/11 a.m. (PDT) in Sewanee, Tenn.
