THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Willamette University (3-7, 1-0) narrowly fell to California Lutheran University (14-3, 3-0) with a final score of 2–1 on Friday at "Sparky" Anderson Stadium. Willamette tied the game in the seventh inning with a run-scoring play, but Cal Lutheran reclaimed the lead in the eighth. Despite a strong pitching performance by the Bearcats, allowing only five hits, they could not overcome the one-run deficit.
Cal Lutheran took the decisive lead in the eighth inning when Wyatt Crosby was hit by a pitch and then stole second base. This set the stage for Lucas Danielewicz, who delivered a timely RBI single to right center, bringing Crosby home and giving Cal Lutheran a one-run advantage.
