Daly Chosen as NWC Baseball Position Player Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University right fielder Samuel Daly (So., El Dorado Hills, CA/Jesuit HS) has been named the Northwest Conference Baseball Position Player Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in games played on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7. Daly contributed to Willamette's four-game sweep of Linfield University in non-conference play at John Lewis Field. The Bearcats won both games on Saturday, 5-2 and 3-2, before adding two victories on Sunday, 11-8 and 15-9. Willamette advanced its record to 6-2 on the season.
Daly batted .333 (5 for 15) during the series while scoring eight runs and recording seven RBIs. His hits were timely and critical to Willamette's success. He pounded out a double and two home runs against the Wildcats. He earned at least one hit, one run, and one RBI in all four games. He scored two or more runs three times and had two or more RBIs twice.
"Sam is a meticulous worker," Willamette Head Coach Aaron Swick said. "He brings passion and energy to the team every day."
Willamette scored 34 runs in the four-game series with the Wildcats and hit five doubles, one triple, and seven home runs. The Bearcats batted .289 as a team while holding Linfield to a .250 batting average.
"Sam had some key hits for us over the weekend and was a big reason why we had so much success on offense," Swick commented.
The Bearcats will play again on Saturday, March 13 and Sunday, March 14 at George Fox University. The teams will open Northwest Conference action on Saturday with a 9-inning game followed by a 7-inning game. WU and GFU will play a second doubleheader on Sunday with one 9-inning game and one 7-inning game. First pitch on Saturday is set for 11 a.m. (PST). Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. (PDT).
