SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University guard Kylie Towry (Sr./Jr., Medford, OR/South Medford HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in games played between Nov. 22 and Nov. 26. The Bearcats went 3-0 during the week.
Towry averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game. She shot 56.3% from the field (18 of 32), including 54.2% from 3-point range (13 of 24). She connected on 5 of 5 free throws.
Willamette opened the week with a 51-48 win at Northwest Christian University on Tuesday, Nov. 22. On Friday, Nov. 25, the Bearcats defeated University of Redlands (Calif.), 59-47, at Cone Field House. The Bearcats also played at home on Saturday, Nov. 26, and defeated Walla Walla University, 88-56.
Towry set Willamette's career record for 3-point baskets during the week, and now tops the all-time list with 178 three-pointers. She set the record on the second of her five 3-pointers against Walla Walla.
She scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds to helped Willamette rally from a 10-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat Northwest Christian. Against Redlands, she put in 23 points and hauled down seven rebounds, while earning two steals. In the win over Walla Walla she registered 20 points in just 17 minutes. She also contributed two rebounds, one assist and two steals against the Wolves.
Towry hit 3 of 6 three-pointers against NCU, and then went 5 of 9 on 3-point shots against Redlands and was 5 of 9 versus Walla Walla. She has scored on 24 of 46 three-point attempts this season (52.2%). Towry leads NCAA Division III in 3-point field goals made, is fourth in 3-point field goals made per game (4.8) and is 25th in points scored with 96 (19.2 avg.).
As a team, Willamette leads Division III with 60 successful 3-point shots. The Bearcats are ranked third in 3-pointers made per game (12.0) and are 11th in 3-point field goal percentage (42.0%). WU also ranks in the top 10 in assists (4th with 101), assist-to-turnover ratio (6th at 1.55 assists per turnover) and assists per game (9th with a 20.2 avg.).
The Bearcats, 5-0 on the season, will open Northwest Conference play this weekend when they take on Whitman College on Friday, Dec. 2 and battle Whitworth University on Saturday, Dec. 3. Both games will be played at Cone Field House. Friday's game is set for 6 p.m. (PST) and Saturday's game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. (PST).
