Michaela Freeby is in her first year as an assistant coach with the Bearcat track and field teams. She also is an assistant coach for the Willamette cross country teams. Freeby competed for Willamette University in cross country track and field throughout her four years as an undergraduate.
As a track and field athlete, Freeby placed fourth at the NCAA Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2013 and 2015. She took 13th place in 2012 and was 17th in 2014.
In cross country, Freeby competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships all four years. She earned All-America honors in cross country in 2013 by placing eighth in the nation. She helped Willamette finish 12th at the NCAA meet in 2013 and contributed to the Bearcats earning 15th place in 2014. She won the West Region title in 2013 and was named West Region Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year. She was second in the West Region in 2014, and finished ninth in 2011 and 2012.
