SALEM, Ore. -- Melinda Burgett has been hired as athletics program assistant at Willamette University. She previously was an intern in the Athletics Department at University of Oregon.
In addition to hiring Burgett, Willamette Athletics Director Valerie Cleary promoted several members of the department's administrative staff earlier this fall. Rob Passage is now the associate athletics director, facilities and operations. Ken Smith has been promoted to assistant athletics director, sports medicine. Christopher Sabato has been elevated to assistant athletics director, media, and Robert McKinney has been promoted to assistant athletics director, communications.
Head Swimming Coach Leslie Shevlin had Student-Athlete Leadership Coordinator added to her title. She will be expanding her role as the Student-Athlete Advisory Comittee advisor and will organize other leadership opportunities for athletics staff and student-athletes, including Girls and Women in Sports Day and Division III Week activities.
Burgett will be the office manager and receptionist for the coaching and professional staff within the department. She will complete project assignments for the director of athletics and the associate directors.
In addition she will assist in the planning and implementation of special projects. She will support the staff with departmental purchases and other related financial tracking and reporting processes. She will assist at athletic events as needed.
From September of 2014 through August of 2016, she was an intern at University of Oregon, where she reported to the director of operations for volleyball and softball. In that role, she created itineraries, entered data, and conducted research for the teams.
Burgett also has experience as a secretary with River Drifters Whitewater Rafting in Maupin, Oregon, where she worked during the summers from 2009 through 2014. She served and organized rafting trips, provided customer service, and prepared images of customers for social media use. In addition, she has been a volleyball official with the OSAA Mid-Columbia Volleyball Officials' Association.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from University of Oregon in 2016.
