Willamette Announces List of 2016 Hall of Fame Inductees

By Robert McKinney, Athletics Communications Director

SALEM, Ore. -- Athletics Director Valerie Cleary has announced the list of inductees in the Willamette University Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2016. This year's induction ceremony will take place on Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Cat Cavern on the Willamette campus starting at 5:30 p.m. (PDT).

It will be a large group of inductees, including many recommended by the Legends Committee of the Hall of the Fame. The Legends Committee considers possible inductees who completed their Willamette athletic careers at least 20 years ago. Many of this year's inductees graduated more than several decades ago, but have not yet been included in the Hall of Fame.

Several of the athletes have previously been inducted into the NAIA District 2 Hall of Fame. Willamette competed in the NAIA until the Bearcats joined NCAA Division III for the 1998-99 athletic year.

The Class of 2016 includes one team induction. The 1982 Willamette men's soccer team, which finished with a 15-4 overall record, including 11 consecutive wins, will be inducted.
